Melvin is currently IT Manager for Motex Corporation, and has previously filled the following positions with various companies: Network Engineer, Field Support Technician Assistant Supervisor, Customer Service Manager, Retail Factory Outlet Assistant Manager, Computer Sales Rep., Data Entry Clerk, & SSgt USAFRes CommOps NCO. Melvin obtained his initial computer exposure back in the DOS 2.11 8088 processor days, and was completely self-taught in DOS, Windows, GW-BASIC, Pascal, and some Assembly prior to entering the military. He was also school taught in Turbo BASIC. He credits the military for his initial exposure to computer hardware maintenance. Following that initial exposure, he spent several years working for a large Louisiana based custom computer manufacturer, gaining much exposure to hardware specs. He attended night school for several semesters, gaining additional training in Pascal, Computer Information Systems, Novell Netware, and Cobol. Melvin was involved in research, development, and EAL4 certification of the Sentinel multi-domain security hardware kit. He has performed on-site penetration testing for Cryptek products. In addition, he has experience with network and phone cabling, purchasing, and the administration of Fedoras 2-7, 9X, NT4, 2K, XP, & 2003 Server. He has been exposed to Vista, but prefers not to deal with it whenever possible.

Once an all Microsoft man, Melvin has broadened his horizons with exposure to the fabulous world of open source over the past several years. Having little exposure to *nix prior to Fedora Core 2, Melvin has migrated slowly away from Windows, and now keeps a Microsoft machine only for unforeseen circumstances such as odd print drivers or games which don't yet run on Linux. Being an avid gamer, he supports the Cedega project. As a supporter of Linux, he only purchases and recommends hardware which has direct driver support for Linux. His current favorite OS is Ubuntu, although he primarily uses Fedora.

Melvin's hobbies include reading and occasionally leaving the house.
